Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat, before the PM's surgery

Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat

Dr Chittaranjan Ranawat (left)  was the hero who walked into Sahyadri, the Government of Maharashtra's guesthouse, to meet the waiting media. Dr Ranawat spoke briefly and precisely while refusing to answer personal questions about his VIP patient: Prime Minister of India Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

But he did take questions on the operation in general and impersonal questions about the prime minister and his decision to go in for the operation.

Pramod Mahajan, Union minister for information technology and Cabinet spokesman, who will be in Bombay during the prime minister's stay, answered only a single question. The important one.
