Russians to launch Bollywood film mag
Bollywood for Russians. All in Cyrillic. Thanks to Prem, the first magazine on Hindi films, set to hit the Moscow stands in October.
Photographs of Sridevi, Kajol and Akshay Kumar will adorn the cover of the inaugural issue, which proposes to feature the best of Bollywood.
The 24-page colour magazine, which relies on the Internet for up-to-date information on release of films, will be published by a Moscow film video company, Triada.
Yuri Korchagov, film critic and adviser to Triada, said the magazine reflected the growing popularity of Hindi films in Russia. Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and Madhuri Dixit are hot favourites among the Russian youth, he added.
Korchagov, who was in New Delhi to participate in the Films Fair '97, said Triada will bring out 5,000 copies of the first issue. The number will be doubled for the next.
'
'Sridevi ties the knot'', ''Superman Akshay Kumar'' and ''Unpredictable Kajol'' are the major stories of the issue, which also lists the Hindi films available in Russia. Added value comes from an interview with Govinda.
Triada releases video cassettes of Hindi films in Moscow and other areas, purchasing video rights from the National Film Development Corporation. After adding a voice-over in Russian, the video cassettes are sold. The company has released 55 Hindi films since last March, including Yeh Dillagi, Khan Dost, Yaarana and Mr Natwarlal.
During his current visit, Korchagov snapped up the rights of Mahesh Bhatt's Tamanna and Chaahat from NFDC. He said talks were on with an Indian film magazine for a tie-up with Prem.
