No truck with Congress: JD

The two main constituents of the United Front -- the Samajwadi Party and the Janata Dal -- differed today on their approach towards the Congress.

While SP chief and Union Defence Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav said his party did not consider the Congress an untouchable, JD president Sharad Yadav said his party would fight both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress. He said there could be no compromise in this regard.

Sharad Yadav held the Congress responsible for forcing a mid-term poll on the nation. He said the UF could have continued for the rest of its term by dumping the Dravida Munnetra Kazagham as demanded by the Congress. But it did not do so in the national interest, he said.

The JD chief said the Congress never stopped the communal forces's growth even when it supported the combine.
