India will import sophisticated technology from a US  firm to protect the country from terrorist attacks at public places, Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal has said.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Friday, Sibal said that the ministry had been working on the project for the last two years.

"The project will cost us about Rs 20 crore and we are confident that this will come down to Rs 10 crore once it is operational," he said. He announced that the pilot project would be done in the next six months in New Delhi's railway station platform number 12.

"We are keen on the project after the Jaipur blasts. Rs 20 crore is not a big amount to protect the lives of the people," Sibal said.

"It is necessary to have such devices in public places to prevent blasts. Then the Central Electronics Limited, a public sector undertaking, will make it suitable for Indian conditions," the minister said.
