Lok Sabha member Chaudhary Munawwar Hasan was on Wednesday killed in a road accident near Palwal in Haryana.
Forty five-year-old Hasan 'was brought dead to the Apollo Hospital at 3 am,' a hospital spokesperson said.
The lawmaker, who was elected on a Samajwadi Party ticket from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh in 2004, had defected to the Bahujan Samaj Party at the time of July 22 trust vote.
He was expelled by the Samajwadi Party, which also filed a petition seeking his disqualification from the House. The petition is pending with the Lok Sabha Speaker. He was also elected to the Lok Sabha in 1996 on an SP ticket.
Police in Palwal said the accident occurred at about 1.15 am when Hasan was travelling from Mathura to Delhi in a Scorpio vehicle, which collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction near Banchari village on National Highway 2.
Hasan, who was injured, was rushed to Delhi for treatment, they said, adding his driver and another injured person have been admitted to a hospital in Faridabad, about 25 km from New Delhi.
The MP is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
