The Election Commission gave time till Wednesday to Bharatiya Janata Party to file a written reply on the charges made against the party by various other political parties.

Earlier, the commission was slated to hear the demand by several parties to derecognise BJP for bringing out a CD that sought to spread hatred and divide Hindus and Muslims on religious grounds.

V P Singh, former prime minister of India, told newsmen that those who seek to spread venom in society deserve to go to jail.

Kapil Sibal, Union minister, charged that BJP was in the habit of making such CDs and getting away with it, and it was time that the commission took notice of it.

BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad Singh alleged that BJP was being singled out

"We have already taken action against the concerned persons who made the CD. In fact, the CD was never produced by the BJP. Political parties like Congress, Samajwadi Party, Jan Morcha, etc want to gain political mileage out of it by raising the issue of derecognition of the party," he said.
