1 killed, 17 hurt in stampede at Puri temple

At least one person was killed and 17 others injured in a stampede at the Sri Jagannath Temple at Puri early Saturday morning.

The stampede occurred at around 4.30 am when a huge crowd tried to enter the shrine for a 'darshan' of the deities on the occasion of 'Badaosha' festival in this Hindu month of Kartik.

The condition of the two injured is stated to be serious. All the injured persons have been shifted to the district hospital in the temple town. Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Panda is at the temple, where a tense situation prevails.
