April 25, 2006 19:29 IST

The Mumbai police recorded the statement of Harish, the servant of Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan.

Harish on Tuesday said he was present in the drawing room with Mahajan and his wife Rekha at around 0730 hours on Saturday when Pravin came in. After some time, the BJP leader's wife went into the kitchen to prepare tea while (he) went to another room, police sources said.

Harish said that after he and Mahajan's wife left the drawing room, Pravin was engaged in a heated discussion with his elder brother and it continued for around 20-25 minutes. And, suddenly there were sounds of firing and as he rushed in, he found Mahajan had collapsed on the floor, while Pravin had left the house.

This was confirmed by a senior police officer on Tuesday.

A profusely bleeding Pramod Mahajan was then rushed to the P D Hinduja hospital, Harish told the police, the sources said.
