The police in Patna are now on a new mission. The men in uniform have launched a special drive to enforce civic sense in the public. They have arrested over 40 persons in the last two days in a bid to deter people from urinating on the pavements or by the roadsides.

"We have decided to book people found urinating in public places for violation of Section 34 of the Police Act, which treats urination by the roadside as a public nuisance," said Alamganj police station officer-in-charge A K Chandra.

"Our motive behind punishing the offenders is to create  civic sense among people," Chandra said. The police has been using the public address system in some areas to create awareness among the public.

Last year, the Railway Protection Force had launched a special drive to deter people from urinating outside public toilets at the Patna railway station and nearby areas. 40 people were arrested, of which 29 were sent to jail.
