Flight with damaged tyre lands safely

February 16, 2005 17:05 IST

A Jet Airways flight with 133 passengers made a safe landing at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport after pieces of one of its tyres came off while taking off from the Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday.

The air traffic control officials at Ahmedabad informed their counterparts in Mumbai about the tyre pieces being found on the runway during an inspection shortly after the aircraft took off.

"Airport emergency services were deployed as a precautionary measure but the aircraft landed safely around 2.15 pm [1415 IST]," a Jet Airways official said.

The flight made the landing amidst full emergency measures. It had to be towed to the bay after landing.

Maintenance engineers were looking into the extent of damage, the official said.
