Rakesh Roshan fails to identify accused

February 09, 2005 15:35 IST

Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, who was shot at by two of Abu Salem's gangsters five years ago, failed to identify the accused in a trial court in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Deposing before a magistrate, Roshan, however, supported the prosecution's case and said Salem's henchmen attacked him after he refused to pay them extortion money.

The gunmen shot Roshan at point-blank range on January 21, 2000 when he was leaving his office. He was taken to the Nanavati Hospital where doctors removed a bullet from his chest.

Wednesday's trial was held in-camera. The police had earlier arrested five accused owing allegiance to the Salem gang. Of them, the police said, two had attacked Roshan while the rest had plotted the conspiracy.
