A low intensity bomb exploded on a busy road near the Indian Institute of Technology in south Delhi on Wednesday evening injuring two persons.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepender Pathak told rediff.com: "It was a minor explosion. The bomb was red in colour and cylindrical in shape. It was around nine inches long."

The explosion created a small crater on the road. Traffic movement was affected for half an hour.

Joginder Singh Atri was driving his Maruti car when the bomb went off just five feet away.

"I saw something lying in the middle of the road. It was red in colour. It was shining and looked like some electronic gadget. It exploded in front of me. I slowed down my car. There was smoke all over. I could not see anything," Atri told rediff.com.

The Delhi Transport Corporation bus that was to Atri's left was badly damaged in the blast as it was closer to the device that went off.

Two commuters in the bus, which was headed for Gurgaon, suffered minor injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital.

A Maruti Esteem car was also damaged.

The police and bomb disposal squad reached the spot 20 minutes after the blast.

Officials did not confirm if it was handiwork of a terrorist.
