Man held for insulting national anthem 32 years back

December 18, 2004 13:08 IST

A man was arrested on Friday for allegedly insulting the national anthem in a cinema house in Akola on August 1, 1972, the police said.

The then government had issued orders that viewers in cinema halls had to stand up when the national anthem was being played. But the 56-year old Nawabkhan, who was a 24-year-old at the time of the incident, had defied the order, the police said.

Masabkha Nawabkhan was arrested 32 years after the incident took place, after a local court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against him.
