J&K announces polls to local bodies

The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced elections to the urban local bodies in the state, except Leh and Kargil districts.

The Srinagar municipal corporation goes to polls on January 20.

The deputy chief electoral officer addressed a notification to the effect on Monday to all the deputy commissioners of the state.

As per the notification, the elections for Srinagar municipal corporation are scheduled for January 20, 2005. Polling for municipal councils/committees of Baramullah and Kupwara districts has been fixed for January 29.

The date for municipal councils/committees for Anantnag and Pulwama districts is February 6, 2005, while polling in councils/committees of Srinagar and Budgam will be held on February 10.

Polling for Jammu municipal corporation is scheduled on February 1.

The polling for municipal councils/committees for Kathua and Jammu districts is scheduled on February 7. Udhampur and Doda districts will go to polls on February 12.

In the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, the election is scheduled for February 17.
