Terror alert fails to affect normal life in US

A terror alert and enhanced security measures in New York, adjoining New Jersey and Connecticut states and Washington DC following warnings that Al Qaeda may be planning new attacks have failed to have any perceptible affect on normal life.

Armed security officers were visible around the buildings which were said to the possible targets and concrete barriers  around them were put into place overnight.
 
The employees had to wait in line for extended time as security staff closely examined their identifications and checked their bags and briefcases.

One of the tunnels leading from New Jersey to Manhattan was closed to commercial traffic and trucks and several roads around the identified buildings were shut.

Despite the terror alert, the authorities were preparing to open the island where Statue of Liberty is located to the public for the first time since September 11, 2001 terror  attacks on New York and Washington.
 
The visitors would have to go through security checks when they board a ferry for Liberty Island and would be checked  with sophisticated equipment before they are allowed on the Island.

Trucks across the tri-state areas comprising New York,  New Jersey and Connecticut are being subjected to random  checks. The New York Stock Exchange had a normal day so far as business is concerned.
