Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma met Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani in Delhi on Sunday and apprised him about the law and order situation in the metropolis.

The meeting comes on the heels of the gunning down of the key Mumbai blasts suspect, Nasir, in an encounter on Friday. The police had found huge quantities of explosives from the car in which the suspect was travelling. The police also said that Nasir was planning explosions to coincide with the Navratri celebrations in the city.

The meeting also assumes significance in the wake of Bhujbal's recent remarks that intelligence agencies had warned of possible terrorist strikes in Mumbai or elsewhere in the country on September 11 coinciding with the anniversary of the attack on World Trade Center in the United States.

Emerging from the hour-long meeting, Advani told reporters that Bhujbal had come to Delhi to personally apprise him of the latest situation.

He said Sharma will stay on in the capital to have discussions with Union home ministry officials.

Bhujbal said the state was getting all cooperation and assistance from the Centre and the Mumbai Police was working in tandem with central agencies.

Asked if all terrorist modules have been destroyed, Bhujbal said, "We cannot say that and we have to be alert."

He also praised the Mumbai Police saying it has done good work. He, however, added a lot remained to be done.

Advani declined to elaborate on what has been his advice to Maharashtra government in the wake the recent bomb blasts. "Consultation between the Centre and the state is a continuing process," he said.

Replying to a query, Bhujbal said those responsible for the blasts in Mumbai were operating from Pakistan and Dubai.
