Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Tuesday said he had declined his Pakistani counterpart Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali's invitation to visit Pakistan.

He informed the weekly BJP parliamentary party meeting of his decision, party spokesman V K Malhotra said. He also said the issue of terrorism figured during Vajpayee's conversation with Jamali on Monday night.

He, however, did not give details of the conversation since Parliament was in session. Malhotra said Vajpayee might make a statement if the issue figured in Parliament.

The prime minister, who chaired the meeting, said the government was making efforts to evolve a consensus on the Women's Reservation Bill, according to Malhotra.

Members raised issues like better deal for sugarcane growers of Uttar Pradesh, Value Added Tax, powerlooms and readymade garments.
