Orissa government opens floating restaurant on Chilika Lake

The Orissa government has built a floating restaurant on Chilika Lake in Puri district.

Located at a distance of 500 metres from the shore, the restaurant has a variety of dishes.

The restaurant has a deck of 600 square feet with adequate sitting arrangement, and a 400 square feet dining hall, which can accommodate 36 people.

The Centre provided assistance of Rs 4.289 million for the restaurant, which will be opened in a few days.

The boat has been named ML Irawaddy, after a dolphin found in the lake.

The water in Chilika Lake is brackish. It is spread over an area of 1,100 sq km and thousand of birds from as far as Siberia visit it throughout the year.
