RAF stages flag march in Mumbai

A battalion of the Rapid Action Force on Thursday staged a flag march in sensitive areas of suburban Bandra in Mumbai in view of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's decision to perform a symbolic puja at the government-acquired land in Ayodhya on March 15.

The police was also maintaining a vigil in the sensitive areas. Besides, nakabandis were being organised at strategic locations to locate suspicious activity, sources said.

The RAF staged a flag march between 1100 hrs and 1300 hrs in Behrampada and Khedwadi in Bandra east and Nirmal Nagar and Golibar Lane in Khar and Santa Cruz.

A battalion of the RAF was stationed in Bandra, the police said, adding that security had also been beefed in and around the residence of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray.

Police Commissioner M N Singh appealed to people to maintain peace and not get carried away by rumours.
