Five CRPF personnel killed in IED blast

Five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and 15 injured, two seriously, when the vehicle in which they were traveling was blown up by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at Gauri Kund near Sudhamahadev in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, a police spokesman said.

While four of them died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries in a hospital at Udhampur.

The two seriously injured persons have been admitted to a hospital.

The IED planted by militants exploded at around 0700 hours (IST) when the CRPF vehicle was on its way to Chenani from Sudhamahadev, 115 km from Jammu, in Udhampur district, the spokesman added.

The Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the blast.

Hizb spokesman Salim Hashmi said in Islamabad that the blast was triggered by an IED.
