Musharraf says Indo-Pak
talks should begin soon

Pakistan's military ruler General Parvez Musharraf has said the Indo-Pak dialogue should resume at the earliest for the sake of peace in South Asia and that he is awaiting a response from New Delhi in this regard.

"I think the talks should start as early as possible for the sake of peace and security in South Asia," General Musharraf was quoted on Thursday as telling his Cabinet colleagues.

The News quoting government sources reported that the military ruler told his colleagues before a Cabinet meeting Wednesday night that he is awaiting India's response to his proposals to begin a fresh round of peace talks to resolve the Kashmir dispute.

"I do not know what pressures are being exerted from within on the Indian prime minister," the sources quoted Musharraf as saying.

General Musharraf said Pakistan is awaiting the visit of Hurriyat Conference leaders to Islamabad to kick-start a new peace process.
