One killed in mob violence in Bangalore

E-Mail this report to a friend

One person was killed as mobs went on a rampage in Bangalore Monday, protesting against the kidnapping of Kannada's leading film star Rajakumar by the Veerappan gang from his Gajanur residence in Erode district of Tamil Nadu last night.

City police commissioner T Madiyal confirmed to PTI that Shivakumar, aged around 30, succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital after he was stabbed. He, however, maintained that the incident may not have been related to violence in the wake of Rajakumar's abduction.

Shivakumar had been stabbed at the Magadi road-Chord road junction, according to joint commissioner of police Ajaykumar Singh.

Prohibitory orders have been clamped in the city for a week, even as a company of the Rapid Action Force conducted flag marches in affected areas to instil a sense of confidence among people.

More central forces are expected to arrive in the city Monday night, Singh said. A 10,000 strong police force has been deployed in the city, which through the day witnessed incidents of stone-throwing.
