Trinamul, TDP to meet PM
on Ayodhya statement

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Trinamul Congress and Telugu Desam Party leaders will meet Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee following his statement that the construction of the Ram Mandir was an expression of national feeling that is yet to be realised.

Sudip Bandopadhyaya, the Trinamul Congress leader in the Lok Sabha, told rediff.com, "The TDP and Trinamul will meet Vajpayee as his statement was completely unwarranted."

But he added, "You cannot judge a person by a single statement."

Commenting on Vajpayee's personality, he said, "Vajpayee is a man of secular character and he has reigned over the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on many occasions."

"My party feels that we should await the Supreme Court decision on the Babri Masjid case," he added.

TDP leader in the Lok Sabha Y Naidu had also stated that the prime minister's statement was unwarranted and construction of the temple in Ayodhya was not on the National Democratic Alliance's agenda.

Vajpayee's statement also led to pandemonium in both Houses of Parliament, leading to their adjournment for another day.
