BSF to assist in Nab Veerappan Mission

Dinakar told reporters after a meeting attended by Chief Minister S M Krishna and Home Minister M Mallikarjuna Kharge on the Nab Veerappan Mission, that BSF personnel, armed with sophisticated weapons, would give an impetus to the efforts to nab the outlaw.

The Centre had assured to help with men and material, he said, adding that the BSF personnel would be followed by National Security Guards.

Dinakar said a new strategy had been worked out and Tamil Nadu STF Inspector General of Police V Balachandran, who is heading the joint STF command, would arrive on Saturday to give final touches to it.

Seventeen platoons of the STF -- 12 in Tamil Nadu and five in Karnataka -- have started combing operations to nab Veerappan, and there were no 'territorial restrictions' for the personnel to move between the states.

Friday's meeting, also attended by Karnataka Home Secretary M B Prakash, discussed the technicalities regarding securing men and material from the Centre to nab the outlaw, he added.

Karnataka STF chief H T Sangliana said a new strategy had been worked out to nab the bandit and ''we hope to get solid results''.
