Seven infiltrators and jawan among 11 killed in JammuSecurity forces foiled a major infiltration bid in the Poonch sector early Thursday when they shot dead six heavily armed infiltrators, while elsewhere in the Jammu region five persons, including a Pakistani infiltrator and an army jawan, were killed in separate militancy-related incidents. Official sources told UNI in Jammu that security forces deployed on the Line of Control in Poonch sector encountered heavy fire from the infiltrators when they were spotted. The troops retaliated killing six of them. A large cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site. A defence ministry spokesman said a team of special task force of the local police and army troops conducted a joint search operation in Kharnal village of Doda district during which a militant was killed, while his associate escaped. Sepoy Sanjay Thakur was killed in the operation. The slain militant was identified as Mohammad Ramzan Khandtwar, a tehsil commander of the Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami. The spokesman said in another incident, troops belonging to the Romeo Force killed two top militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen in an encounter in Poonch district late Wednesday night. Two AK-56 rifles, seven hand grenades, one wireless set, nine magazines and over 200 rounds of ammunition were recovered. Troops foiled another infiltration bid in Krishna Ghati of Poonch district on the LoC. A search of the area led to recovery of the body of an infiltrator belonging to the Lashkar-e-Tayiba. |
