6 hurt in Pakistani border shellingAt least six persons were injured and more than 20 houses damaged due to artillery and mortar shelling by Pakistani troops from across the border in the northern sector on Friday night. Official sources said Pakistani troops fired mortars and artillery shells from across the border, targeting civilian areas and security force installation in Uri, Hatlanga, Nambla, Teetwal, Kamalkote Kanah and Keran in the northern sector. Some shells fell in residential areas in Uri, Teetwal and Karnah sectors, near the line of actual control, injuring six persons. The sources said 20 houses were damaged due to the shelling. Indian troops retaliated. Casualties and damage suffered by enemy troops were not immediately known. Pakistani troops have been firing artillery and mortar shells in the northern sector almost daily from across the border, to push trained and heavily armed militants into India. About 150 people, including security personnel, have lost lives due to Pak shelling in two years. Several government buildings, schools and hospitals, besides residential houses were damaged due to the shelling during that period. UNI
