Gopal contacts Veerappan

E-Mail this report to a friend

The emissary of the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments and Tamil magazine Nakkeeran editor R Gopal established contact with Veerappan early Wednesday to negotiate the release of Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajakumar and three others being held hostage since Sunday, official sources said.

Gopal was escorted by Veerappan's men to his hideout.

The outlaw said that he would only convey his demands through the emissary to the two governments.

If everything proceeds as expected, Gopal is expected to return to Madras with Veerappan's demands and meet Tamil Nadu chief Minister M Karunanidhi Wednesday night.

The response of the two governments would then be conveyed back to Veerappan by Gopal.
