Government agrees to seek trust voteThe Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government has agreed to seek a vote of confidence from the Lok Sabha as directed by President K R Narayanan. Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will table the motion of confidence in his year-old government in the Lower House of Parliament at 11am tomorrow. The Budget session of Parliament resumes tomorrow after a break of more than a month. Party vice-president Krishan Lal Sharma said members of the BJP parliamentary party will meet alliance partners tomorrow morning and request Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi to permit the debate on the motion of confidence in the House tomorrow itself and conduct the voting at the earliest. Information and Broadcasting Minister Pramod Mahajan said question hour would be suspended and the prime minister would table the motion in keeping with the President's directive to prove his majority in the Lower House of Parliament. Vajpayee will then initiate a debate on the motion by making a speech. Only after a full debate will a vote be taken, Mahajan said.
