BSP members walk out of Lok Sabha, say BJP is anti-Dalit

Bahujan Samaj Party members led by Mayawati today staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha immediately after G M C Balayogi's election as Speaker, protesting against the Bharatiya Janata Party's alleged ''anti-Dalit'' attitude.

The walkout came after Prime Minister A B Vajpayee said his party had sponsored a Dalit's candidature as Lok Sabha Speaker.

Talking to newspersons, Mayawati took strong exception to Vajpayee saying that his government had sponsored a Dalit for the high office. She said it was the BJP which had engineered a split in the BSP, a Dalit party, in Uttar Pradesh recently.

The BSP leader said the BJP government had also foisted a case against her by ordering the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe the float pump deal when she declined their offer to join the BJP government at the Centre. This clearly revealed the anti-Dalit stance of the BJP government, she said.
