BJP announces 20 more candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party's central election committee on Friday released 20 more names for the general election, taking the number of seats it would contest on its own to 387.

In the last election the party contested 471 seats.

Of the 20 candidates, 11 are from Gujarat (including two women), six from Uttar Pradesh and one each from Andaman, Orissa and Rajasthan.

Party general secretary M Venkaiah Naidu said the committee also cleared a list of 90 candidates for the Gujarat assembly election. The final list will be announced on Monday, February 2.

He said the party was undecided about candidates for Pandarpur and the autonomous district of Assam. It has yet to decide the nominations for Daman and Diu.

The party will support the All India Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Kerala's Idukki district.
