40 per cent of polling booths are sensitive in MP

About 40 per cent of the 56,112 polling stations have been identified as sensitive and hyper-sensitive for the general election in Madhya Pradesh.

State Chief Electoral Officer A K Vijayavargiya said about 7,500 and 14,000 polling stations were sensitive and hyper-sensitive respectively.

These polling stations are in the Naxalite-prone areas in Bastar, Rajnandgaon, Mandla and Balaghat districts, places bordering Uttar Pradesh and tribal areas in Khargone district.

Vijayavargiya said nearly 2,000 polling stations in communally sensitive areas of Indore, Ujjain, Shajapur and Bhopal have been identified as hyper-sensitive.

More than 44.5 million people, including about 21.5 million women, are eligible to exercise their franchise in the 40 constituencies.
