Karunanidhi tells Left to settle for two seats

Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi on Wednesday appealed to the Left parties, partners in the DMK-TMC combine, to accept the two Lok Sabha seats -- Nagapattinam and Coimbatore -- being allotted to them.

Talking to newspersons at Anna Arivalayam, the DMK headquarters in Madras, Karunanidhi said he had explained the circumstances of the allotment to the Left parties. "I appeal to them to accept the two seats being offered to the CPI and the CPI-M," he added.

Asked about the CPI-M's reported threat to put up candidates on its own in some constituencies, Karunanidhi said he would appeal to the Marxists not to take any such decision.

He confirmed that the DMK would contest 18 seats for which general secretary K Anbazhagan had invited applications from partymen. The list of DMK candidates will be released in a couple of days.
