Veteran actor and director A R Babu has chosen a subject like reincarnation for his Kannada film Maru Janma.

The weakest link in the film with newcomers is its music. Babu's slow narration also tires the audience. What makes it worse is that there is no comic relief.

It seems like director Babu was more interested in capturing the visual beauty of Rajasthan than the script.

The story revolves around Varun, who often gets disturbed in his sleep and experiences mysterious things. He gets a feeling of deja vu when he sees the photograph of a girl. It is only later that he finds out that he was the bodyguard of a princess in his previous birth. The two had fallen in love, much to the King's objections. The King then buries his daughter's lover alive. Unable to bear the tragedy, Maya also dies soon after. After four hundred years both Varun and Maya are reborn. The film ends when they are united in the same place where both of them died.     

Performance-wise, Babu has failed to elicit much from newcomers Naga Kiran and Priyanka. Both look very ordinary on screen. Dimple, on the other hand performs better even though she has a small role in the film. The less said about the other artists the better.  

Sree Murali's music is average. Even the much hyped Prem's song is also mediocre. What you need is a lot of patience to watch this film.
