Kal Ho Naa Ho sweeps IIFA 2004 awards

Nikhil Advani's Kal Ho Naa Ho swept the International Indian Film Academy Awards in Singapore, winning eight prizes including best film and best actress.

Hrithik Roshan was adjudged best actor for Koi... Mil Gaya.

Preity Zinta's role as Naina, a woman torn between the affections of happy-go-lucky Aman (Shah Rukh Khan) and best friend Rohit (Saif Ali Khan) fetched her the best actress award. She also won the Filmfare Award for the same role.

Saif added another award for best supporting actor in the film, while Jaya Bachchan bagged the best supporting actress award for her role as Jennifer Kapur, Naina's troubled mother, both in Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Koi... Mil Gaya fetched another best direction honour for Rakesh Roshan.

In a glittering ceremony at Singapore's International stadium packed with Indians who comprise 10 percent of the city state's population, Kal Ho Naa Ho also bagged IIFA Awards for best music direction (Shankar-Ehsaan-Joy), story (producer Yash Johar's son Karan Johar), lyrics (Javed Akhtar)and male playback singer (Sonu Nigam, for the title song).

Boman Irani bagged the award for best performance in a comic role for his rib-tickling dean in Munnabhai MBBS. Feroz Khan won the award for best negative role in Janasheen, the film he directed, starring son Fardeen Khan.

Shreya Ghoshal won the best female playback singer (Jism). The Sony Face of the Year was bagged by Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor. The Samsung Style Icon Award was presented to Saif Ali Khan, while the Samsung Diva award went to Kareena Kapoor.

Other awardees were Om Puri for outstanding performance by an Indian in international cinema, Dilip Kumar (outstanding
contribution to Indian cinema) and Yash Johar (outstanding technical contribution to Indian cinema).
