Vroom! Chinese bikes to be built in West Bengal

An agreement has been signed between city-based Global Automobiles Pvt Ltd and Guangzhou Motors Company, China to set up a two-wheeler manufacturing unit in West Bengal by March 2006.

Global Automobiles, a Xenitis Group Company, is the brand owner of Agar PC. The two-wheeler factory will be set up in West Bengal.

The West Bengal government has welcomed this joint venture and said that the state will provide the necessary support.
Speaking on the occasion Jiao Jiaming, the president of Guangzhou Motors group, said, "We are very excited to have finalised the step to enter the Indian market."

The company expects the turnover of the company in 2006 to be approximately valued in tune of $80 million, he said, adding that they were targeting to sell 1,50,000 motorcycles from March 2006 to December 2006.

Santanu Ghosh, the chairman of the Xenitis Group, said, "The setting up of a motorcycle manufacturing factory in west Bengal is like a 'dream come true' to me."

The category of motorcycles that will hit the market initially are 100cc, 125cc and 150cc, Ghosh added.
