Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference leader, Farooq Abdullah, on Monday escaped a bid on his life when a grenade thrown on his motorcade in Badgam district exploded in the air causing no injuries to him or the people accompanying him.
Militants fired a rifle grenade on Abdullah's motorcade in Sonargund village when he was heading for Raithan village to address an election meeting around 1400 IST, official sources said.
However, the grenade exploded mid-air after the NC leader's motorcade had passed.
Abdullah reached Raithan safely, the sources said.
