Black deeds?

After the match-fixing scandal, corruption reared its ugly face when the Indian cricket board suspended Abhijit Kale, the Maharashtra batsman, for allegedly offering bribes to two national selectors.

Kale was accused of having offered Rs 1 million each as bribes to national selectors Kiran More, the former Indian wicket-keeper, and Pranab Roy for a place in the Test team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India suspended Kale from playing first class cricket. Bar Council of India chairman D V Subbarao, who was appointed Commissioner of Inquiry, held Kale prima facie guilty of the bribery charges.

Kale, who has denied the allegation, admitted he had called the selectors but only to notify them of his fitness.

BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya has formed a three-member disciplinary committee and nominated himself as its head to decide on the punishment.
