A large number of cricket fans, deliriously celebrating the triumph, poured into the Biren Roy Road soon after the match was over. Police had to rush in reinforcements to control the surging crowd.

"Any father would feel proud with a son like this. History was made today. Yes, I feel very proud both as an Indian as also as Sourav's father," Chandi Ganguly said.

All members of the family sat glued to the television since morning and savoured every moment of the Indian team's victory.

The match and customary press conferences and interviews over, Ganguly called up from Rawalpindi to share his joy with the family.

"He calls us every day. And today he asked us whether we had watched the match," the senior Ganguly said.

"I have never seen an Indian team play as good as this one. It is not dependent on any particular player. It is the full team that delivers," he said.

The entire family is looking forward to Sourav's return to the city tomorrow.

"We have not chalked out any celebration plans. Generally, we don't have formal celebrations. But we are now waiting for him to come back tomorrow," Ganguly senior, Trustee Board chairman and former joint-secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal, said.
