Pakistan sacks 8 players

Following their humiliating loss to India and subsequent elimination from the World Cup in South Africa, Pakistan sacked eight senior players, including skipper Waqar Younis, veteran Wasim Akram, and pace bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

Besides Waqar, Wasim, and Shoaib, other senior players axed from the one-day side included Inzamam-ul Haq, Azhar Mahmood, Saeed Anwar, Shahid Afridi, and Saqlain Mushtaq.

The selectors picked a new-look 16-member team under wicketkeeper Rashid Latif, Pakistan's seventh captain in five years. Former Test captain Javed Miandad returned as coach after South African Richard Pybus resigned. Miandad was the 11th coach in five years.
